Have you ever went home from a dance gig and left wondering what the hell is that amazing song played by one of the DJ's? You couldn't ask people to identify the song because you could only describe it as "well.. it's catchy and errr.. it's got this gorgeous string part." The only way was to ask the DJ via MySpace or something but alas, he didn't reply or he's not an active user. So there's nothing you could do except accepting the fact that the song will haunt your head forever.

Well, a similar thing happened to me last Thursday at the Darshan Jesrani gig. I was still in my car when I heard a gorgeous piece of disco blasting through the outdoor speakers, played by one of the opening DJ's (Dea, if I'm not mistaken). At that moment I knew that I had to have that song. Well, what happened next is just like the illustration above, except it doesn't end in a downbeat tone because I've finally found the song in question a few days later! I was browsing through the Tele Music Remixed folder (which I hadn't listened to) on my hard drive and I found there's a remix by Ray Mang. Curious, I clicked play and.. the rest.. is history.

Well, this new Shit Robot release on DFA, called "Simple Things (Work It Out)," is that kind of single, except this has TWO remixes that give the original a run for its money. Not too surprising when you see who the remixers are: Serge Santiago and Todd Terje. I suck at describing what a song sounds like so I won't go into that. I'll just say that the piano breakdown is jawdropping. House of House, you have a contender!

Gimana jadinya kalo Belle and Sebastian sama Stars kolaborasi nge-cover lagunya Prince, "Sign o the Times"? Kalau kamu pikir kamu bisa ngedapetin jawabannya dengan mengklik link di atas, maka kamu kena deeeh. Ngedenger kata "electro", mungkin orang2 udah pada negatif duluan pikirannya. Jadi ngebayangin Deadmau5, Sebastian Leger, atau siapa gitu. You know, those electrohouse crap. But this is the real deal, folks. Mungkin lagu I-F yang paling terkenal. Donlod aja kalo kamu suka Vitalic, Legowelt, dsb.

Mike Mareen - Dancing in the Dark
Jujur aja, penampilan si Mike ini ga banget lah. It represents the hideous side of the 80's. Topi bundar, kacamata gede, kumis tebel, rambut panjang keriting kecil2, beungeut tough guy, baju kegedean yang terbuat dari plastik, dsb. Jadi saran saya jangan liat video dia di Youtube, takutnya ilfil. Instead, donlod aja lagu ini. Bertolak belakang dari orangnya, lagunya merepresentasikan the cool side of the 80's. Serius, cool banget ini lagu.

Phoenix - Lisztomania (Classixx Version)
Inilah track yang ngebuat saya ngedonlod album Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix. Sebenernya di-pikir2 ga nyambung juga soalnya track ini ga ada di album, malah versi yang ada di album ga sebagus versi remix ini kalo menurut saya. Tapi ya gapapa, kangen juga sih sama suara si vokalis Phoenix. Bittersweet2 gimana gitu, bikin hati adem. Setiap ngedengerin suaranya jadi inget jaman dulu waktu lagi ngecengin si anu. Eh udah ah, keburu nanti malah jadi ajang curhat. See you yah.

Aeroplane kayanya ga pernah gagal bikin mix. Mix yang satu ini walaupun masih sedikit di bawah RA podcast taun lalu tapi tetep asik (apa kabar dunia?). Salah satu bukti kehebatan mix ini adalah bisa membuat saya terkagum-kagum waktu diputer di mobil lewat speaker portabel murahan yang suaranya kaya tong sampah ditambah lagi suara bising lalu lintas dan adik saya yang ngoceh terus.

Salah satu ciri mix yang menarik adalah kalo kita kesusahan mendeskripsikan genre dari mix tersebut.
